You can export customizations from a server that is running Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 with Update Rollup 2 or a later update rollup. Then, you can import those customizations to a server that has Update Rollup 18 installed. You can also export customizations from a server that is running Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 with Update Rollup 18 installed. Then, you can import those customizations to a server that has Update Rollup 2 or a later update rollup installed.
If you export customizations from a server that is running Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, you must not import the customizations to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 server in the following scenarios:
- The Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 server that you use to export the customizations has no updates installed. Or, it has only Update Rollup 1 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 installed. However, the server that you use to import the customizations has only Update Rollup 18 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 installed.
- The Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 server that you use to export the customizations has only Update Rollup 18 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 installed.
